Jungle creatures in the workplace are those who would roar or sniff around. They will try to make or break you as a newbie in the company. We will try to pinpoint different jungle creatures in an organization.
Every one of us started as a newbie in the corporation. We scouted for a career, believing to settle on something commensurate to a course we graduated from or near to our interests.
We were so excited back then, putting on our best ensemble to impress our interviewers. Wearing cheap cologne and sporting shoes, we borrowed from our siblings or friends who were supportive enough.
Congratulations! You got hired!
Finally, you were given a chance to demonstrate what you've got.
You are expected to please everybody because you deem it necessary, considering they are your seniors. Until you got the hang of it. And labeled each one mentally gritting your teeth, they resemble jungle creature traits and you will be in your fright or flight survival mode.
Either you embrace the culture or you revolt against it. You deal with these jungle creatures every working day, and each contributed to how you view yourself.
Here are 5 Jungle Creatures You Usually Deal Within the Workplace
Wolves
Those who have the position but still keen for power. Wolves have lofty expectations of you, yet didn't set expectations from the very beginning—those who stand their ground and never waver, even from how shaky their stance, maybe.
Since you are new, you will be supported and guided, but don't take your hopes up high; Prove your ability to these people and stay meek like a sheep and follow orders. They don't want to see you acting like them. They won't appreciate the tasks you finish because you barely meet their expectations, which level up every time you level up.
Hyena
Rank and file and the least concerned with your predicaments.
When you felt the toil of your job since there are people who make your life arduous, you look for a colleague who would understand, but it seems these people are too engrossed with their drama and do not want to join you in yours.
They look at you with pity, as if saying: hang in there! We've been there. Take it or leave it! But smile menacingly behind, hoping to see you fail.
Chameleon
Those who never side with anyone but coalesce whenever issues arise without their stand-point.
When you find these people, you vent out, they listen and sympathize with you, but when the wolves arrive, they act as one of the pack.
Leeches
Those who make sure they hold the safest position, crawling up the corporate ladder or holding on to the title and keep a relationship with the wolves.
They may appear harmless and supportive to you, but when the going gets tough, you see them latched on their position tighter than the rope you have on your neck.
You will see them get favors effortlessly. They are born charmers.
Butterflies
Those who morphed from newbie to asset of the company.
These people grew a thick skin and blended in. They were once challenged but denied defeat. They succumbed to obscure structure and endowed their skills for the progress of the company. Most often than not, they are functional workers. All they can do is to empathize with you. A good thing, yeah?
They are best to talk to when you want to sustain your sanity in this hobo camp.
Take Away
You will never survive this kind of work if you are not flexible enough to amalgamate.
Foremost, learn about the culture before the trade. You know the work, but the corporation's culture will either exhaust you, and you will leave or lure you, and you will stay.
Be careful not to lay down all your cards to keep wolves from knowing how to use you. Your salary is for the time and effort you give to get the job done. Your skill is another matter; it's your primary barter tool.
However pure, the vessel may alter the physiognomy with continuous exposure to toxicity.
Do not doubt your capabilities. Stay focus, love your job, but do not be too caught up by animal-like characters that strangle you and debilitate you to do your best.
You can be a leech or a butterfly or join the pack of wolves; it will always be up to how you perform your role.
Above all, you need to find your worth and voice in this jungle. How you will be treated will always be determined by how far you would allow these brutes to.
